Job Description

Our befriending groups are made up of small groups of staff and small groups of children and young people. Each of the three groups meets three times a month to participate in community-based activities. We are looking for befrienders that could support these groups, offering varied and stimulating activities. You will be working with children aged 8-19 with a broad spectrum of needs.

Successful candidates will work as follows: One evening every other week (3 hours) and one Saturday per month (6 hours). Total contracted hours: 12 per calendar month.

  • Successful applicants will be required to:
  • Support disabled children and young people to access community-based activities.
  • Support children to develop their social interaction skills, friendships, life skills & independence skills.
  • Assist the befriending group leader with planning, organising and facilitating safe, enjoying, fun activities for the children in the group.
  • Work as part of a small team to provide a reliable and efficient befriending service to disabled children in Thurrock.
  • Successful applicants will have previous experience of direct work with disabled children.
